a.) Farms/Game Lodges
In a continent with as much undeveloped land as Africa, the dependable reticulation of electrical
power is not the rule for the majority of the region. Where current technology applications exist
in remote areas, such as with game lodges, farms and telecommunications relays, the need for
a secure energy source takes more than just a stand-by generator to keep systems performing
to specification. A PV array can be erected at any convenient location, and it needs little or no
maintenance or supervision. The regulator ensures that the quality and level of current that is
supplied will not damage or interfere with sensitive equipment. The battery bank can be installed
unobtrusively and are maintenance-free for years. The inverter provides a controlled, steady AC current that is perfect
for virtually all equipment and appliances, including computers.
b.) Telecoms/Waterpumps
In cases where completely independent power supplies are required for individual pieces of equipment such as telecommunications
relays or water pumps, photovoltaic cells deliver a direct, sustainable flow of power without complex
or attention-demanding support systems. The PV array can be mounted on a secure, high level pole, feeding current
directly into the electrical device or to batteries. Remote sensors and wireless communication can provide interactive
reporting and control from a distant central site.
