Advantages of self-healing Capacitors

Lighting Capacitors are produced under the latest technology and according to EN 61048 & EN 61049 international standard. Dielectric material of these capacitors is BOPP film in ?m thickness and electrodes are very thin metallic layers (less than 0.3 ?m) which are metallized in vacuum evaporation process. Damage of dielectric (by any reason) will cause short circuit between the electrodes and high current passes through. The produced heat around the break point evaporates metallic layer. After break down, the short circuit disappears and capacitor continues working automatically. This process is called self-healing which occurs in less than 1/100 seconds. There is no sensible reduction in capacitance in spite of the area of capacitor electrodes and the evaporated part.
