For damage limitation reasons, many naval vessels have a large number of relatively small inlets along the length of the hull. In these cases each strainer is fitted with anodes in order to protect the associated pipework and equipment against bio-fouling. Because of the limited space availability within the strainers, systems of this type use many anodes which are often of a dual purpose construction combining copper and ferrous elements in one assembly. This necessitates the use of a number of control panels.
