BD/HD-DVD/DVD/CD Storage Chipsets

Atmel's 3-wavelength front monitor diode family supports gain tuning with external potentiometers or using the available serial interface. All FMDs are packaged using our extremely small (3 mm x 3 mm) proprietary QFN open-packaging technology.

The photo-detector IC family includes devices for use in 3-wavelength OPUs, all of which are packaged using our extremely small (4 mm x 3.5 mm) proprietary QFN open-packaging technology. Customer-specific designs are standard for PDICs, and further details are available on request.

Atmel offers a laser diode driver family that includes devices with two and three outputs for use in combined OPUs. High output current and low rise and fall times enable the support of drives with up to 8x BD/HD-DVD, 22x DVD (single layer), 16x DVD (dual layer), and 52x CD write speeds.

For Blu-ray (BD), HD-DVD, and DVD/CD storage applications, Atmel provides laser diode driver ICs (LDD), photo-detector ICs (PDIC), and front monitor diodes (FMD) for use in optical pick-up units (OPUs) supporting all current read, write, and re-write standards.
