A second oxygen sensor is sometimes placed in the exhaust system after the catalytic converter of a spark-ignition engine. This is to permit optimum performance of the three-way catalytic converters. This is predicted to increase an average of 10% a year as the market size increases exponentially.Due to the extreme technology involved in the manufacturing of this product, the competition worldwide has been limited to a few selected suppliers. Within the technology there are also varying levels which are attained by companies, hence also limiting their distribution.Oxygen Sensors have varying levels of sophistication . This depends on the year and make of the vehicle; with the oldest vehicles and technology using only one connecting wire, while the most current applications uses 4 to 5 wires.
