Open Gear Lube

Open Gear Lubricant is a clear amber lubricant for medium to large open gears such as girth gear drives and pinion drives. It contains a selected additive package that brings optimum wear protection on tooth flanks and it can be applied through immersion, circulation or transfer paddle wheel. It can be used at elevated component temperatures of up to 120c (248f). The lubricant film is functional at temperatures as low as -30c (-22f).

Advantages:
(1) The chemistry is free of traditional thickeners and it is based on synthetic hydrocarbons and mineral oil. Ogl has good extreme pressure, anti-wear and adhesion properties without the presence of bitumen, graphite, molybdenum disulfide or heavy metal compounds. Observation of a lower operation temperature at the gear flanks is due to lower friction of open gear lubricant.

(2) Versatility and easy applications for open gear lubrication: Immersion, circulation or spray system.

(3) The clear amber colour of ogl facilitates both maintenance of the drives and assessments of the gear condition. Tooth flank inspections by stroboscope can be done without having to stop the drive. No intensive cleaning of the drive is required.

(4) If applied with spray lubrication, the consumption quantities can be substantially reduced by up to 50 %, which also reduce disposal quantities and costs.

Applications:
(1) Operational lubricant for open gears drives such as large girth gear and pinion drives under high load, vibration and eccentricity, constant high operation temperature that incorporating immersion, circulation or spray system in mining, cement manufacturing and chemical processing plant.

(2) A transparent lubricating film allows detection of any changes to the tooth flanks immediately. This is a major advantage compared to graphite, molybdenum disulfide and bitumen based gear lubricants, where those changes became only visible after stopping the gear and cleaning the tooth flanks.

(3) It is recommended that the peripheral speed stays below 26 feet/s.
