STEPAir Reciprocating Compressor ControllerRetrofit your old compressor with the STEPAir Compressor Controller. This controller replaces the existing control system on your compressor with a standard off the shelf PLC based control solution. This unit provides both Startup & Shutdown features, Compressor Monitoring functions as well as Capacity Control The STEPAir Capacity Control replaces the existing pneumatic controller with an electronic solution. Capacity is controlled by monitoring discharge pressure to determine what capacity step(s) shall be active. The system can be configured as a standalone controller or controlled by a supervisor system. STEPAir ControllerBase System The platform of the STEPAir Controller is the Allen Bradley CompactLogix Controller. This platform provides a low cost solution while providing maximum flexibility with I/O choices and communication interfaces. Enclosure The enclosure for the STEPAir Controller comes in the following configurations. - Size: Standard: 30 x 24 x 12 Large Applications: 36 x 30 x 12- Ratings: NEMA 12 NEMA 4X- Hazardous Area Applications: Class 1 Div. 2 Groups B,C,D- Options: Sun/Weather Hood Type Z Purge System Climate ControlSTEPAir Compressor & Auxiliary Equipment ControlStartup / Shutdown Control The STEPAir Controller can provide complete startup and shutdown control for your compressor. The controller can monitor key variables of the compressor to provide pertinent data to the operators as will as protection against premature failure. When all startup conditions are satisfied a permissive to start status is displayed. Alarms & Shutdowns Key variables of the compressor can be monitored to provide protection to the compressor as well as the down stream process. Variables can be classified as either Alarms or shutdowns. Alarms provide a warning that a variable of the machine or process is beyond its typical operating parameters. Shutdowns provide protection to the machine by shutting down the compressor when a variable exceeds its threshold. First-In First-Out status of all alarms and shutdowns are provided as well as a historical summary. Auxiliary Equipment The STEPAir Controller can be equipped to provide control of auxiliary equipment such as cooling systems, oil pumps and lubricators. STEPAir Capacity ControlSTEP Capacity Control The controller provides STEP Capacity Control by monitoring the discharge air pressure and activating or deactivating the compressors clearance pocket or cylinder unloaders. This is accomplished with the use of solenoids that are piped to the clearance pocket or cylinder unloaders. Load Steps The controller can be configured to control multiple steps depending on the requirements of the specified compressor. Examples include (3) STEP Control; 0-50-100% load steps vs. a system that requires (5) STEP Control; 0-25-50-75-100% load steps. Field Programmable The system provides field adjustable setpoint, deadband and response time to tune the system to your specific application. Revolving Sequence To minimize maintenance & maximize the life of the solenoids and the associated unloaders the system the STEPs of the capacity control can be programmed to rotate based on time and the number of cycles. This allows a compressor that tends to active a 75% and 100% unloader more frequent than the 25% and the 50% unloader to swap roles.
