PWM has recently surfaced asthe first significant advance in solar battery charging. PWM solar chargers usetechnology similar to other modern high quality battery chargers,. When abattery voltage reaches the regulation set point, the PWM algorithm slowlyreduces the charging current to avoid heating and gassing of the battery yetthe charging continues to return the maximum amount of energy to the battery inthe shortest time. The result is a higher charging efficiency, rapidrecharging, and a healthy battery at full capacity. 

Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) charging is the mosteffective means to achieve constant voltage battery charging by switching thesolar system controllers power devices. When in PWM regulation, the currentfrom the solar array tapers as recharging needs. Charging a battery with asolar system is a unique and difficult challenge. In the old days, simpleon-off regulators were used to limit battery out gassing when a solar panelproduced excess energy. However, as solar systems matured it became clear howmuch these simple devices interfered with the charging process.

Instantaneous overload when load current is greater than programmedvalue.

Overload at 2 sec when load is greater than programmed value.

Overload at 4 sec when load is greater than programmed value.

 Overload at 20 sec when load current is greater programmed value.
