Econstone comes from the existing pavement. Consists of gravel, aggregate, bitumen and sand. It is milled to a size 0 ---- 31.5 mm or the size requested.
Econstone is often used as a sub-base for pavement construction.
Eco stands for ecological sustainable, because:
* "Replaces new mineral, meaning that the original minerals in the areas of origin, be preserved."
* "Reduce CO2 emissions if the material is used in sub-bases, as this will reduce the preparation of hot asphalt for the top layer.
This means less production of asphalt plants, thus lower emissions. Economically perhaps Econstone because it is cheaper than traditional gravel.
