Modified Bitumen

Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen is a process of blending sized tire rubber particles with Bitumen under high shear process to derive the best properties of the vulcanized tire rubber. Further, additives like specialty oils and natural rock asphalt are mixed if required for meeting certain specifications depending on the type of Bitumen. It is important to understand that mostly inferior performance has been noticed when CRMB has not been prepared using proper manufacturing equipment and right formulations. CRMB is just a blend of two materials and does not convert Bitumen into a synthetic compound. CRMB is a low-cost material but no alternative to PMB due to problems of un-dispersed vulcanized rubber particles making it difficult to work. Often contractors and firms prefer PMB rather than CRMB for ease in use and higher life from the PMB due to its chemistry. World over, PMB has taken over CRMB as there is a consistency in the PMB performance due to its unique long-term properties.
