Matola Coal Terminal -Since 2007, Grindrod Terminals has been under the ownership of the Bulk Handling Terminal at Matola in Maputo, on the East Coast of Mozambique. Matola Coal
Terminal, otherwise known as TCM, was built in the 1960s to handle the export of iron ore from Swaziland. It is currently under a rapid refurbishment and update programme and already has
commitments of 2.5 million tons in 2008. Grindrod plans to double current export volumes by 2009 to 4.5 million tons and to potentially increase to 8.0 million tons or more in future years.
Traditionally, TCM handles anthracite, coal and magnetite but is capable of handling all dry bulk commodities. The terminal has its own exclusive berth, ship loader, stockpile area, rail tipplers,
stacker reclaimer and conveyor handling system. The terminal is strategically located close to the coalfields for exports to the East Coast of Africa, Indian Ocean Islands and India.
Richards Bay Coal Terminal, first established in 1976 with an original capacity of 12 million tons per annum, has now grown into an advanced 24-hour operation with a designed
capacity to export 76 million tons of coal per year. RBCT is currently undergoing the Phase V expansion project, which on completion in 2009 will increase capacity to 91 million tons per year at an
estimated cost of R1.1 billion.
Through a stockyard capacity of 6.7 million tons, equipment consisting of 4 tandem tipplers, a total of 56km conveyor belts and 4 ship loaders, 6 stacker / reclaimers, 2 stackers and 1 reclaimer,
the five berths at RBCT make it the largest export coal terminal in the world.
Senzile Resources will look to export our products through RBCT and Matola Coal Terminal in Mozambique.
