Chlorinated Paraffin Wax (CPW)

Chlorinated Paraffin Wax is manufactured by the chlorination of n-paraffin
or paraffin wax, normally in a batch process. The reaction is exothermic and
leads to the generation of the by-product hydrochloric acid. After removing
residual traces of acid, a stabiliser is added to produce finished batches.
pplications / Uses:

* Used in PVC Compounding and ethyl cellulose industries as a
secondary plasticizer in the manufacture of shoe soles, suction hosepipes,
tubing, cable wires, carpets etc.

* Used in Rubber Industry as flame retardant chemical.

* Used in the Paint Industry in anti-corrosive and fire proof paints.

* Used in Industrial Lubricants like gear oil as a fire retardant chemical
additive.

+ Used in Carbon Paper as a flexible coating

The Most common International Grade is CPW 52, with chlorine content of
52% +/-.

The largest application for chlorinated paraffins is as a plasticiser, generally in
conjunction with primary plasticisers such as certain phthalates in flexible
PVC. The use of chlorinated paraffins in PVC imparts a number of technical
benefits, of which the most significant is the enhancement of flame-retardant
properties. This is particularly of benefit in PVC flooring and cables.
