Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is the main product produced by Brunei LNG.
Natural gas is mostly supplied by Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) which operate three major offshore fields. The largest is South-West Ampa field, about 10 kilometres off Kuala
Belait. The other producing fields are Fairley and Gannet. In 1999, natural gas is also supplied to BLNG by Total (a BBJV company) from Jamalul Alam and Maharaja Lela
fields. As of August 2003, BSP has a new gas field ( Egret) producing to BLNG.

Liquefied Natural Gas Manufacturing Process:

The BLNG plant was commissioned in 1973 and is located at the coast of Brunei near Lumut, about 80 km from the capital Bandar Seri Begawan.
The feedgas to BLNG is supplied by BSP from four major offshore fields. Together with the gas supply from BBJV, the fields deliver more than 25 million m? of gas a day, which is
delivered to BLNG for domestic gas and LNG export.

There are five liquefaction trains, each capable of processing 9700 m? of gas per day. This gives an annual plant capacity of around 7.2 million tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas
(LNG). The LNG is stored in specially designed tanks prior to shipping by dedicated tankers to the customers in Japan and Korea.
Part of the feed is conditioned and exported to the DES power plants located in Lumut and near the state capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG) is produced as a by-product. The LPG is used in the LNG process and is bottled in the Bottling plant for domestic sales by BSM.

High temperature steam for the main refrigerant compressor drives and the 4 turbine generators is raised in 9 gas fired boilers and 7 waste heat boilers, which are installed behind
the gas turbine generators in the adjacent DES power plant. Additionally there are 3 heat Recovery Steam Generators that are installed behind the HHP gas compressor on OCP. An open
cooling water system in which 135,000 m?/hr of water is being circulated, is used for heat extraction from the refrigeration and steam cycles. Approximately 2,000 tonnes of water
per hour is taken from the Badas river via three 16 km pipelines and chemically treated prior to cooling of equipment and condensate make-up.

The 130-hectare BLNG complex was designed to service the project's original 20-year supply commitment.
BLNG completed in 1993 a comprehensive rejuvenation of its facilities, invested in 2 new LNG storage tanks, a new jetty extension and secured a new 20 year contract with the
Japanese customers.
In 1999, a LNG storage tank was upgraded which increased the LNG storage capacity.
In 2002, the OCP (Onshore Compression Plant) was commissioned. This is a BSP asset, maintained and operated by BLNG. The plant consists of 3 frame 5-gas compressor and 3 Heat
Recovery Steam Generators.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas

The other product produce at the BLNG plant is Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which is bottled into canisters and sold as domestic cooking gas.
