Cotton Mushroom Compost

Cotton Seed Hulls or better known as Mushroom Compost is a highly rich organic by-product from the delinter process. Asian countries and later Europe and the USA reported mushroom yields had first varied between 1.5% to 14.7% biological efficiency (B. E. ) which is defined as the ratio of fresh weight of mushrooms to dry weight of compost at spawning expressed as a percentage. Since 1971 cotton waste was first introduced in Hong Kong and to serve as a kind of 'heating material' to raise the temperature of mixed beds of cotton waste and rice straw so that mushrooms could be produced indoors during the winter months. Mushroom yields from the cotton-straw beds are 3 times higher than the yields of straw-only beds (generally 30-40% B. E. ). Cotton waste substrate has now replaced straw and outdoor cultivation. The sales of seed hulls for the cultivation of edible mushrooms has tripled this year. Cotton Seed Hull is therefore becoming a more valuable waste product, and accounts for over one-fifth of our total Export.We are a South-African company based in Durban.
