Geosynthetic clay liners (or gcls) are the newest subset within geosynthetic materials. They are rolls of factory fabricated thin layers of bentonite clay sandwiched between two geotextiles or
bonded to a geomembrane. Structural integrity is maintained by needle punching, stitching or physical bonding. They are seeing use as a composite component beneath a geomembrane or by themselves
as primary or secondary liners.
Features:
1) a needle-punched reinforced geosynthetic clay liner (gcl)
2) uses two geotextile layers to encapsulate a layer of natural sodium bentonite
3) the needle-punched fibres transmit shear forces through the bentonite core
4) used as a sealing barrier against liquids and gases in various civil and environmental applications
