Currently, the Carson location has 10 hazardous waste storage tanks with a total maximum permitted capacity of 92,492 gallons, as well as storage capacity for 90 drums. In keeping with Evergreen's dedication to the protection of the environment, the tanks and drums are completely enclosed within a 2-foot high by 8-inch thick berm to provide secondary containment capacity of 45,122 gallons.
The Carson facility's functions include the collection of used oil, waste antifreeze, oily water, and oil-contaminated solid waste from offsite generators such as automotive dealerships and repair locations, gas stations, and oil change shops. The collected waste is tested in compliance with environmental requirements, then consolidated and shipped to the appropriate permitted recycling, treatment, or disposal facility.
Evergreen's Southern California operations are based on a Transfer, Storage and Disposal hazardous waste facility located in Carson. The Carson facility is fully permitted by the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) as well as the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD).
Carson TSF
Our facility operates four permitted drum storage and consolidation pads. These pads are permitted to accept 132 State and Federal waste codes with waste ranging from oily debris to flammable liquids. Evergreen can store up to 1008 drums at any one time. Our permit allows for consolidation of non-volatile solid waste, non-RCRA waste waters, oil and antifreeze, and small quantity packages of laboratory chemicals. Waste water and oil waste streams are transferred to our re-refinery and waste water treatment plant for processing. The dispositions of all other wastes are transported to only the most compliant off-site TSDF available to ensure the customers liabilities are managed to the best methods possible. All drummed waste accepted at our Newark facility, that is not processed in our plants, are manifested off-site with Evergreen being the generator of record.
Drummed Waste Storage and Consolidation
* Mechanical removal of solid content up to 65% by volume
* Lamella Clarifier
* Dissolved Air Flotation
* pH Adjustment and Precipitation
* Mixed Media filtration
Evergreen operates a newly built waste water treatment plant that can accept and treat up to 55.0 million gallons annually. The plant can accept any type of non-hazardous and non-RCRA waste water, and RCRA waters with low concentrations of organics. Oily water and sludge from clarifiers and sumps, R&D wash water, and RCRA water from contaminated properties can all be treated in our state-of-the-art treatment plant. Our plant utilizes the following processing methods:
Waste Water Treatment
The re-refinery is the only "true" recycling plant for used oil in the Western United States. The current operations re-refine 13.5 millions gallons of used oil annually. The plant can accept oil containing up to 10% water, less than 5 parts per million polychlorinated biphenyls, and 1,000 parts per million total organic halogens. Our facility does not accept any type of bunker oil for processing. Evergreen is currently completing a new "train" that will add an additional processing capacity of 10.0 millions gallons annually. The project is anticipated to be completed in December 2008.
Re-Refinery
All waste handling and treatment operations are supported by our in-house, full service, analytical laboratory that is permitted by the State of California Department of Health Services.
Evergreen owns and operates a full service, fully permitted RCRA Part B Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal facility. The facility has permitted operations that allow for used oil re-refining, waste water treatment, and drummed waste storage and consolidation.
