Although most of the micro-organisms in feedwater will be killed by biocides, their body will enter into RO system, as hidden trouble of granule stem. The remaining microorganisms will thrive high-speed, resulting in bad performance of membrane. Therefore, besides the daily dosage of oxidative biocides, non-oxidative biocides are necessarily added into RO system intermittently or continuously, controlling biological growth and slime forming. If the RO membrane has been bio-contaminated, non-oxidative biocides could be used to cleaning membrane.

2. Non-oxidative biocides for periodic use and membrane cleaning

Microorganisms enter into RO system together with feedwater, when they grow and reproduce in membrane components and pipelines, biological slimes will be formed, resulting in membrane bio-contamination. In order to prevent bio-contamination, biocides are usually used in RO system. And biocides should be added as earlier as possible to ensure adequate time to control microorganisms before the feedwater entering into RO membrane. RO biocides include oxidative biocides and non-oxidative biocides, and oxidative biocides are used daily. When oxidative biocides are used in RO system, deoxidations should be added into RO system before feedwater entering into RO membrane, avoiding the membrane be oxidized.

1. Oxidative biocides for daily use

Water temperature of RO system is usually 20 to 40, which is particularly conducive to microorganisms thrive. And a large number of microorganisms adhesion at the membrane forming biological mucosa, making the membrane plugged, resulting in decreased system performance and shorten membrane life.
