Our standard commercial Islands come in 105,160, 266, 322, and 403 Sqft, however custom design build applications are available for any size to fit any project.  Our aesthetic islands (kidney shaped) are a standard 35, 70, 112, 225, and 300 Sqft, however these can be custom designed and built as well.

Floating Island Environmetal Solutions is pleased to announce the completion of the 22,000 Sqft Island launched for the Caspian Tern project for the US Army Corps of Engineers in Oregon, USA.  We have also been selected as one of the top 5 new technologies available for Coastal Restoration and Marsh protection in the CWPPRA process. FIES was voted in as one of five finalist that would most likely demonstrate marsh creation and restoration by the 6 Federal Agencies involved.

The five major applications for the Biohaven Floating Islands are wetland restoration,   bank and shoreline stabilization, improved water quality, habitat enhancement, and recreation and beautification.  Our islands have been used in parks, zoos, gardens, golf courses, farms, conservation districts, hatcheries, private ponds and lakes, public ponds and lakes, levees, boat docks, fountains, mines, treatment plants and more. 

Our islands can be found all over the world in urban and rural settings and are an environmentally sound solution for wetland restoration, water quality, habitat enhancement, and aesthetic related applications.  The principle behind the islands is called Biomimetics, which is the science of adapting designs from nature to solve modern problems.   The islands are multi faceted and can be used in fresh and salt marsh, lakes, ponds, streams, landscaping, treatment plants, and coastlines.  There is no energy required, no maintenance required and no operational costs involved. We have completed jobs for the Department of Natural resources, The Army Corp of Engineers, Private land owners, Municipalities, Zoos, and Conservation Districts.

The non woven matrix fibers provide a concentrated surface area for microbes to proliferate and remove contaminants of all kinds from the water.  Nutrients caused by fertilizer run off, organic waste, nitrates, phosphates, ammonia, and heavy metals have all been found to be removed by Floating Islands from years of state and federal research.   The water source becomes cleaner and safer for native plants and animals to function.  The islands also provide an excellent habitat for local fish and wildlife.  A 250 sqft Biohaven floating island has the surface area for microbial activity to take place equivalent to 43,560 sqft (1 acre) of natural wetlands. 

Floating Island Environmental Solutions (FIES) is a licensed manufacturer and distributor of the BioHaven floating island.  A Biohaven floating island is a man made water management system that functions like a concentrated natural wetland.  It is created from buoyant mats that are made of non woven plastic matrix; bonded together and then planted with sod, garden plants and / or wetland vegetation appropriate for the end users environment.  The layers are bonded with inert marine foam. The foam provides adhesion and also adds buoyancy. The matrix layers are made from 100% polyester fibers, sourced from recycled PET drink bottles.
