Hepburn Bio Buster cleaned 250 m3 of
contaminated bilge waste water in 4 days
On day four (Today) we started pumping overboard directly from the double bottom which is something we cannot normally do. So far we have put 45mt over the side and still pumping. The maximum we have ever pumped over in one day after processing is 20mt.
As the water had been sitting stagnant for some days and was also full of chlorine it was agreed to supply ships air to the tank. The original sample was dirty and had a heavy sediment on the base The tank started clearing in a day and by day three it was clear.
Fig 2. After treatment by Hepburn Bio Buster the waste had no smell, was clear, apart from some beige particles which had settled out in the bottom of the glass.
Fig 1. Prior to treatment by Hepburn Bio Buster the waste was foul smelling and would not pass the separator

Cross contamination of the bilge water is a common problem and creates severe problems for the engineers as the oily water monitor cannot process opaque water and the ships are required to hold the contaminated water until it has been cleaned. This cleaning often involves the use of many filters per day and excessive use of chlorine.
