Each cell receives 0 to 3 amperes of DC current producing up to 0.2 pounds of chlorine during a 24-hour period. This is enough chlorine to purify a residential well. The i-chlor Model 0.2 system uses an optional automatic density maintenance system to maintain the optimum cathode electrolyte concentration range. As the concentration of sodium hydroxide increases during the chlor-alkali process, the density of sodium hydroxide electrolyte also increases. The automatic density maintenance system monitors the density of the sodium hydroxide and supplies dilution water to the reservoir when the density exceeds the upper concentration level. The excess sodium hydroxide then overflows from the reservoir and is collected in a separate reservoir, or is injected into the water supply with the chlorine.
