The basic function of wet scrubber is to provide contact between scrubbing liquid and the gas stream. This contact can be achieved by impaction. Generally interception and impaction are important
for dust collection. But for Gas scrubbing Diffusiophoretic deposition is significant for mass transfer. In general the gas enters from the bottom of the wet scrubber. Due to its very nature it
moves upward. The liquid falls from the top. Obviously there will be contact at a specific time between these two phases. As a result the mass from the gas stream will be transferred to the liquid
phase. Depending on contact time the rate of mass transfer will be determined. As the gas moves upward the more it gets free from load. The liquid comes out from the system and disposed of after
treatment.
In general, Sodium hydroxide is the most suitable liquid for SOx and Ammonium bicarbonate and Calcium hydroxide for NOx for scrubbing.
