Mixed Bed Deionizers

Mixed Bed Deionizers are utilized to remove ionized impurities from the water. Deionization or demineralization is the process of removing up to 95% of the dissolved minerals from the water supply by way of ion exchange. Two separate resins are utilized for the deionization process. The Cation resin exchanges the positive ions for hydrogen ions (H+), while the Anion resin exchanges the negative ions for hydroxide ions (OH-). Water (H2O) is theoretically produced as an end result in the deionization process. The Cation resin is regenerated with acid (hydrochloric or sulfuric) and the Anion resin is regenerated with sodium hydroxide (caustic soda). Mixed Bed Deionizers have the cation resin and anion resin in the same vessel. The resins are regenerated simultaneously. The resins are separated in the vessel, regenerated (Cation on bottom and Anion on top), rinsed and re-mixed prior to returning to service. Mixed Bed Deionizers normally produce water quality in the range of 1,000,000 ohms up to 18,000,000 ohms resistivity. Ecodyne Industrial offers a complete line of Mixed Bed Deionizer systems starting at 18 up to 48 in size, with flows from 18 gpm up to 125 gpm. The mixed bed deionizers are valve nest design with steel pressure vessels that are spray lined or Rubber lined. Standard controls are PLC based with resistivity monitor.
