Description: MedGyn Laminaria is a cervical dilator with more than a century of medicinal use. Laminaria is a sea grown plant. It is a natural product, so it does not contain synthetic materials. Once the plant is dehydrated, it becomes hygroscopic and swells up to approximately ten times the dehydrated diameter. This property makes laminaria the preferred cervical dilator. When inserted in the cervical canal, it absorbs fluid gradually. This gradual swelling causes a gentle dilation of the cervix and thus less trauma for the patient. Maximum dilation and softening normally occurs between 4 and 12 hours. MedGyn Laminaria is clinically superior with larger dilation and faster results. Laminaria cannot remain in cervix for more than 24 hours. General Usage:cervical stenosis placement or removal of intrauterine devices induction of labor radium placement curettage and drainage of uterine cavity endometrial biopsy suction cannula aspiration Standard length of laminaria is approximately 60mm. MedGyn also offers 70 mm length and laminaria with buttons to prevent over-insertion.
