Cumin seed is considered to be an herb in traditional Chinese medicine, where it is commonly referred to as zi ran or an xi hui xiang . An xi is the Chinese name for the Arsacid Dynasty of Parthia, so it is also called Arab hui xiang . Cumin is not to be confused with fennel seed or xiao hui xiang .
