Gujarat is the only state in India that produces 75% of the total salt produced in India. Salt is produced by the saline water which is either pumped from the bores or sea water from high tides. This saline water is evaporated thus leaving behind white crystals in the pan. This raw salt is then powdered by the mills. Then iodine is mixed into this powdered salt to make it fit for edible use.
