Our Products

Our licorice products are unique and unmatched by any other existing licorice product in the world. Our licorices are infused with real licorice extract from the root of the Licorice plant (glycyrrhiza glabra) harvested from Asia. We know that once a licorice lover tastes our product, no other licorice will measure up.


The Black Opal Confectionery Difference

Black Opal Confectionery started as a family confectionery business in 1995. At the time we couldnt find a licorice that we liked anywhere and realized that there was a good opportunity for someone who would offer a good quality licorice to the consumers. The decision has been taken to develop our own recipe and production. One year later we were supplying major supermarkets all over Australia and going from strength to strength.

In 1999 we have acquired a 70 year old traditional marshmallow manufacturing business that provided us with access to an unique old recipe for marshmallow manufacturing that no one seems to have retained anywhere in the world. That has proven to be a great success too.

Since then we added chocolate coating (enrobing) capabilities in 2000. This development allowed us to introduce several new product ranges such as chocolate coated licorice, marshmallows and rocky road.

A new Allsorts licorice production line was added in 2007.

A new purpose built production facility of more than 3000 square meters was commissioned late in 2007 and the entirety of our production transferred there in the first half of 2008.

This new factory allowed us to triple our production capacity with a room for more expansion in the future.

Our Manufacturing

All of our products are being manufactured at the state of the art brand new facility on custom designed equipment. Our facilities are BRC Issue 5, HACCP, ISO 9001 certified.
