Sugar Refining

The Group's sugar refining operations are undertaken by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Malayan Sugar Manufacturing Co. Bhd (MSM) and 50% associated company, Kilang Gula Felda Perlis Sdn Bhd (KGFP).
   MSM's sugar refinery at Prai, Province Wellesley started operations in 1964 and has become the region's largest sugar refinery with a melting capacity of 2,500 mt of raw sugar per day to produce various types of sugar for manufacturing industries and household consumption. Its customers comprise of major F&B and confectionary industries, hotels, restaurants, food outlets and household consumers.
   MSM supplies mainly to the domestic market and its exports account for about 10%-25% of its total sales. Over the years, MSM has established a strong reputation for its products' consistent and superior quality.

PPB has a 4,350-hectare cane plantation in Chuping, Perlis. KGFP is a joint venture between PPB and FELDA, established to cultivate cane on an adjoining 4,000 hectares of land and to own and operate an integrated sugar mill with a milling capacity of 5,500mt of cane per day and a refinery with a melting capacity of 650mt of raw sugar per day to process cane from both plantations.
   Together, MSM and KGFP produce more than 700,000mt of refined sugar per annum and supply about 60% of the domestic sugar requirements.
