Boer Goat

Our company has adopted embryo transfer techniques, which combine special hi-tech with classical breeding technique, and hammered at rapid breeding of economical animals for a long time. It is the first time in our country to set up a rapid breeding technique system of Boer goat embryo transfer. Now we have five breeding farms of Boer goat, which are connected to the headquarter by computer network to setup an database to monitor the breeding indexes, such as genetic sources (family trees) body weights, health statuses, feed consumptions, etc., between different farms. According to database, we can evaluate the breeding capabilities of one age group, and determine their breeding values. Each goat has its health card from birth. Computer stores all information about the clients, their contact manners, and the goats when and where to sell out, which are convenient for us to do the follow-up service. Systems of programmed managements have been established, including, feeding procedure and feed formula, quarantine of some infectious diseases, elimination of parasites, disease monitoring, controlling and treating. The above data as an archive are used not only to serve our clients for before-, inter- and after-service, but also to train our staff members to improve the qualities of ourselves, and finally the product. In order to select and spread the qualified breeder, it is essential to maintain the stability of genetic trait from the original breeders. We own two strains of Boer breeders originally from South Africa and Australia. Apart from taking the above managing measures, we select youth females as donor goats, which show excellent reproduction properties. By using embryo transfer technique, it is easy to transport genetic material, and speed up the reproduction, and thus enlarge our breeder population, and ensure the quality.

The habit Boer goats are good at climbing, and like short grass and twigs. Naturally they adapt to the surroundings easily and distribute in tropic, subtropics zone and semi-desert areas, and can be raised in shrubbery, desert, mountain and barren grassland areas. They have mild temper and habit of gregariousness, and are suitable for large scale feed. Now Boer goats have been introduced to many countries.

The meat ratio of Boer goat is higher than that of sheep, and increases as they grow old, 8~10 months old being 48%, one to tree years old 50%, 52%, and 54% respectively. The meat bone ratio is 4.7:1, bone being only 17.5%. The meat of Boer goat has a little fat with sterling and pure color and smell, tender texture with abundant juice. The skin coats are also excellent for both texture and flexibility. Adult skin coats can reach the first class level of commercial standard.

The properties of breeding Generally, male goats reach sex maturation at 6 months old, female at 10 months old, and oestrus is all year around. The sex cycles are about 20 days and span about 1~2 days. The spans of pregnancy are about 150 days, and generally reproduction is three times every two years. The production rates are 160%~220%, most being multi-lambs, 60% twins and 15% trins. The reproduction period is about 10 years. Female Boer goats show good maternity. Lactation periods are about 120~140 days. Milk contains 5.6% fats, 15.7% total solid elements, and 6.1% lactose. When herded in grassland, the milk production is 1.5~2.5kg per day, showing the good quality of Boer goat.

3.   Boer goats grow rapidly. Six month old Boer goats reach 30kg, and are ready for sale.

Boer goat has a particular appearance and shape: white of trunk, redish or brownish head with a white band, redish or brownish spots on neck, chest and abdomen, short or middle length coat with bright luster. Some Boer goats are all brown-redish; extruded horns with beautiful curves; wide and drooped ears. The trunks are cylinder-shaped with muscle embonpoint. The limbs are short and strong.
