Guinea Fowl Breeding Stock

Another of the nice things about the wire floors is that grass and weeds grow under it and provide the Guineas with green feed. And amazingly it doesn't seem to get soiled from the droppings. They keep it trimmed about one inch below the wire floors. The droppings just decay away, never needing cleaning.

We use wire flooring for our breeding pens for several reasons. This keeps the birds off the ground and avoids contact with soil borne parasites, such as worm eggs and coccidia, etc. It also keeps them out of the mud. We have clay soils and in the spring it would get very muddy at the spring thaw. Also when it rains there is no mud, thus keeping the buildings cleaner and keeps the eggs clean. The Guineas do not have muddy feet when entering the nests. And no mud puddles for diseases to breed in.
