Grass Fed Lamb

Our grass fed and fattened lamb is superior in taste and quality. Our lamb is special. We raise border cheviot sheep are a small breed that yields a very tender meat. Raised in a low stress environment, the meat is kept tender and flavorful. Our sheep are farmed organically, feeding on annual grasses during the winter and irrigated cover crops in the orchards during the summer and fall. Lambs are born in the spring and stay with their mothers until harvest in the fall. The pastures and orchards used by our sheep receive no chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. In fact, the sheep are part of the reason that we do not need these chemicals! They are part of an integrated system of natural orchard care. Our sheep and ranch are predator friendly, using guardian dogs to protect the flock from predators. These dogs live with the flock and form a relationship with local predators so the predators leave the sheep alone. Sheep are provided with shelter during lambing and storms and enjoy the shade of the orchards during the hot summer months. No chemical wormers or fly controls are used and no hormones are given. A system of rotational grazing is used to keep the sheep free of parasites. Our sheep are offered supplements of organically certified minerals to keep them healthy. Regular tissue testing is done at harvest to insure the animals mineral profiles are balanced. Whole lambs are available by preorder for the fall. It is best to order by July at the latest as this is a very popular product and we often run out. Cuts of lamb are available at the ranch and local farmers markets from time of harvest in November until we run out which is usually by January. We are working hard to expand our sheep flock through selective breeding in order to meet demand. Please be patient with us through this process.
