Packaged Foods is among the largest businesses in the world that spans across the globe and comprises of a wide range of product categories under it. Olams role in this business is to primarily participate in select emerging markets where it can leverage Olams supply chain and distribution strengths to offer high quality packaged food products to its consumers. Olam started its Packaged Foods Business through the launch of its Coffee Mix products in Russia in the year 2004. From then on, it has expanded its business by launching products in South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Congo and other West African Markets. Olam has also expanded its product range that now includes Beverages (Coffee Mixes, Milk Powder, and Chocolate Mixes), Snack Nuts and Seeds, and Culinary products under the brand names of Enrista, Lactorich, Ponchos , and Tasty Tom . Underscoring this growth is the building of robust distribution infrastructure in each of these markets. This has enabled Olam to offer its infrastructure to provide distribution services on an exclusive basis to select partners in each of its markets. It currently provides such services to Gordon Frazer, Sri Lanka, ITC Ltd, India and Vedan Enterprises, Taiwan. Olams Russia operations has built extensive distribution infrastructure over the first 3 years of its operations. It now distributes its products through 80 distributors spread over 62 cities across the country. It boasts of an extensive direct retail distribution infrastructure in most of the main cities across all 7 regions of the country. The current product range in Russia includes Enrista Coffee Mixes, Ponchos Snack Nuts and Seeds, Gordon Frazer Tea and Sunfeast Biscuits of ITC Ltd. The South African operations began in late 2005 by launching Enrista range of Coffee mixes. This product was a new concept to this market and has since gained wide acclaim and acceptance with South African consumers for its taste and quality. This product range is now listed in all the major retail chains of the country and is distributed in over 80% of organized retail outlets across the country. Owing to the success of this range, Olam has also launched Hot and White Chocolate drinks under the same brand umbrella in late 2006. Starting operations in West African Markets was a natural step for Olam owing to its existing strong local presence and distribution infrastructure in most markets in West Africa. Olam started its Packaged Foods business in Nigeria and has built a strong Pan Nigeria distribution network. It now services over 42 cities through 7 depot points spread across the country. Its product range includes Lactorich Milk Powder, Tasty Tom Tomato Powder and Paste; Enrista Coffee Mix and Vedan brand MSG. Olam has started operations for Packaged Foods in Ghana, Togo, Benin, DR Congo, and Cameroon as well in the current year where it is building distribution networks similar ones it has build in other markets. Building on the platform laid till now, Olam is in the process of expanding its product offerings to the above markets while assiduously building a distribution infrastructure that is best-in-class in these markets.
