Background Vanilla Design Ltd was started in 2007 by Brent Wilson and Mark Colley. We are based in Dunedin, New Zealand but happily source and ship our products worldwide. Mark and Brent had some ideas for cool products they would like to get developed. In addition to looking to wholesale these products they thought it would make sense to sell directly from their own website. Then, in the process of bringing these concepts into production, they identified a number of other people who either had interesting products they didn't plan to sell (so they licensed them) or had developed something great but lacked the marketing and sales channels to reach a wider market (so they stocked them) . Design philosophy-"simply designed" Over the years we have had a number of influences on our opinions to that eternal question "what is (good) design". Our personal tastes lean toward simplicity and pragmatism. We talk more about this in our blog and newsletter. Staff Profiles Brent Wilson Brent has lived in Dunedin most of his life. After finishing a degree at the University of Otago he lived in Auckland for a while and founded an ice cream business with a partner-his first proper taste of entrepreneurship. After a bit of a look around overseas he came back to Dunedin with his (life) partner Jenny with a view to starting an aquaculture business. . . This has taken a lot longer than he thought it would so he has had a variety of roles in economic development in the meantime, the last of which was as a business advisor to tertiary students starting businesses. This was where he met Mark and the Vanilla concept was born. . . Brent and Jenny have two children, Quinn (age 4) and Xanthe (7 months) . After school Mark ventured Southwards in 2003 to Dunedin and the University of Otago where he completed an honours degree in Law and co-founded a clothing label and a custom clothing company.
