Without discussing specific manufacturers, one thing I learned when I owned an electronics retail operation is that not all TVs, Blu-ray players, etc., are the same. Some manufacturers produced great products "when they worked" which might be quite a bit less frequently than some other manufacturers. If you own an {unnamed brand} TV and it works you might well have gotten a good buy; the problem was that lots of other customers may have been less fortunate. Personally I'm willing to pay a bit more for a perception of quality; it doesn't always work out, but at least my odds are better!
