AACSR (Aluminium Conduct Steel Reinforced) is widely used as bare overhead power transmission and distribution lines. AACSR used as bare overhead transmission cable and as primary and secondary distrubution cable. AACSR offerss optimal strength for line design. Variable steel core stranding enables desired strength to be achieved without sacrificing ampacity.

AACSR (Aluminium Conduct Steel Reinforced) is composed by concentric-lay-stranded galvanized steel wires and aluminium alloy wires; It combine the light weight and good conductivity of aluminum with high tensile strength and ruggedness of steel. In line design, this can provide higher tensions, less sag, and longer span lengths than obtainable with most other types of overhead conductors. This steel strands are added as mechanical reinforcements. The cross section above illustrate some common stranding. The steel core wires are protected from corrosion by galvanizing.
