COLUN was founded in 1949 by a group of visionary farmers of La Union, in the middle of the dairy country in southern Chile. The objective was to create a cooperative to process and market their milk and provide them with farm supplies and services. Since its creation, it has maintained a permanent preoccupation for the quality of its products, characteristic that is recognized by Chilean consumers. At present, COLUN is the main cheese, sweet whey powder and caramelized milk producer in Chile, and maintains important market shares in UHT milk and butter. The total milk collection in different plants in the country has grown 73% in the last ten years. COLUN has, in the same period, more than doubled its milk collection with an average growth of over 7% annually. Today, COLUN receives over 400 million liters of milk a year. This strong growth has placed COLUN as the second largest dairy company in Chile operating the largest milk processing plant of the country. COLUN produces around 230 different products, in different presentation formats being the following main groups: Cheese (Gouda, Edam and Parmesan) Milk Powder (Whole and Skim Milk) Sweet Whey Powder Butter Caramelized Milk (Dulce de leche) UHT Products (Plain Milk, Flavored Milk, Cream juices) Fresh Products (Yogurt and Cheese) COLUN created the exports department in 1992 beginning the international shipments with products such as Milk Powder, Gouda Cheese, Sweet Whey Powder, Butter and Caramelized Milk.
